Dancing On Ice.
Dancing On Ice - Overview
First broadcast in the Uk in January 2006. Was a suprise hit in the UK getting the third best viewing figure for that year. The show features Olympic gold medalists and national treasures Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
Jayne and Chris teach celebrities of varying (mostly none) ability to ice-skate. They then pair the novice celebrity skaters with a professional ice-skating partner to help coach and choreograph their weekly routines. Each week the couples have to include a 'required element' into their routine. This could be flying above the ice or using a prop.
The celebs & their professional ice skating partners then perform their routines on the weekly live Sunday night shows.
A panel of five judges give an appraisal of their performances along with a score.
After all the competitors have performed. The public then get chance to vote for who they want to stay in the competition, by phone, The public votes are then combined with the judges scores.
The two celebs with the lowest scores have to perform their routine again in a skate-off. The judges then decide which couple they want to stay based on 'that' performance.
The loser gets a bunch of flowers and to do the lap of honour on the ice. before going home.
The contestants come from all spheres of the celebrity globe from soap stars, TV doctors, singers & jornalists, or just being married to someone famous is good - enough.
The first winner of the show was actress Gaynor Faye with her amazing skating partner Daniel Whiston. Dan also partnered last years winner bubbly Hayley Tamodden.
